🔄 Free Online Image Rotator & Flipper

CleanCutBG's rotate tool spins your images by 90°, 180°, or 270° and flips them horizontally or vertically. It's the quickest fix for sideways phone photos, upside-down scans, mirror-selfie corrections, and prepping images for a specific layout. Batch mode applies the same rotation to up to 5 images at once, great for a whole camera roll that came off the phone in the wrong orientation.

Accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC files up to 20 MB each. The rotation engine runs on our infrastructure — no download, no registration, no output branding. Whether it's a single sideways phone photo or a batch of 5 images that all need the same fix, processing finishes in seconds and you choose the output format.

📋 How to Rotate or Flip an Image

🧭 Why Your Phone Photo Sometimes Looks Sideways

Modern phone cameras don't physically rotate the image sensor when you turn the phone. Instead, they store the actual pixels in landscape orientation and add a small piece of metadata called EXIF Orientation that tells viewer apps how to display the image. Photo apps, browsers, and social platforms read this tag and rotate on the fly.

The problem: some tools (older Windows, some editors, plenty of embedded systems) ignore that tag and show the raw pixels. That's why the same photo can look perfect in your phone gallery and sideways when you email it to someone on a PC.

Our rotate tool physically re-encodes the pixels in the new orientation and clears the EXIF tag. The result looks the same in every app, everywhere, no more "why is this sideways?" from clients or family.

🪞 Rotation vs. Flip: What's the Difference?

Rotation and flip are lossless for uncompressed formats like PNG. For JPEG, re-encoding causes a tiny quality drop, but at quality 90+ it's completely invisible.

💡 Tips

❓ Rotation & Flipping — Quick Answers

Does rotating an image lose quality?
For 90°, 180°, or 270° rotations, the answer is essentially no. PNG and WebP are perfectly lossless. JPG loses a tiny amount from re-encoding, but at high quality settings the difference is invisible.

Why does my phone photo look correct in the gallery but sideways when I email it?
Your phone stores the image in landscape and uses EXIF Orientation metadata to tell apps how to rotate. Some apps ignore that tag. Our tool physically rotates the pixels so it looks right in every app.

Can I rotate multiple images at once?
Yes, upload up to 5 images and every one will be rotated to the same angle in a single click.

Can I rotate a PDF here?
Not with this tool, it's for images only. For PDF manipulation, try our Merge PDF tool.

Is CleanCutBG's rotate tool free?
Yes, free. Rotate or flip as many photos as you need — no sign-up, no branding on the output, no usage cap.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Select a photo from your phone's gallery, tap a rotation button, and save the corrected image — all within the browser, no app needed.

Are my images stored?
No. Rotation is a quick in-memory operation — the image is decoded, the pixel matrix is transposed for 90°/270° or mirrored for flips, and the result is re-encoded. The original and rotated copies are both freed from RAM the moment the download starts. No file system writes, no logs, no sharing.
